Review — The shores, lands and lives of the people - the core of whom are the local ama - Japanese female pearl divers - of the native Shima (Mie Pref.) of the amateur photographer URAGUCHI Kusukazu (1922-1988), who published one other book on the ama of Shima in 1981. Wonderful, contrasted b&w scenes and portraits. More than half of the book deals with the ama's worklife and traditions. One of those 'pearls' that come out of nowhere from time to time, and time again, fortunately.
