Remarques & avis / Review — An eery, ethereal, as otherworldly series of yellowed polaroid pictures of 'toriis' – the archways gates of Shinto shrines – taken in 1993 by SUZUKI Risaku. The Toriis were mostly shot from outside of the shrines (the pictures being thus insights into the domain of the gods) and frozen instantly on Polaroid film; the yellowing of the instant prints over-ages the pictures (far more than the mere 20 years that have elapsed since their printing), and some even have development defects: layers of time seized, stopped, passed and finally stopped again in the shape of this photobook (although for the original Polaroid prints, time is still running!). A fascinating piece of work. Signed copy.
