Description — 10 original b&w photographic plates (30 x 25 cm and 38 x 30.5 cm sizes), mounted (41.5 x 34.5 cm), in a folio cloth portfolio case (42 x 35 x 3 cm), (3) ff. of text, in Japanese.
État / Condition — Portfolio: light staining, manuscript title pasted on back; otherwise fine.
Remarques & avis / Review — 10 beautiful large prints by foremost photographers of the '50s, including Ise shrine by Yoshio Watanabe, originally sold at the profit of the Japanese association for handicapped children. An interesting selection on more than one account, that sums up the major trends of Japanese photography in the postwar, pre-Vivo period (countryside landscapes & nature, portraits of women and children, religious artworks, as manifestations of Japan's traditions and of a Taisho nostalgia). Even though paper frames are often yellowed, the plates (so finely crafted that they are hardly distinguishable from silver prints) are usually in fine condition.
