Remarques & avis / Review — Keiko NOMURA (1970-) does not belong to the female self-portrait syndrome of the 1990s. After giving up on an English university curriculum, she studies photography and graduates in 1994. She exhibits her first works (Viet-nam) in 1996 and her first photobook, Deep South (Okinawa) wins the 1999 Newcomer's Award of the Photographic Society of Japan (which was not granted to Mika NINAGAWA, Yurie NAGASHIMA or HIROMIX). Deep South deals with Okinawa, through fine, colorful pictures — streets and interiors (very Showa-jidai), portraits and a few nudes, in a well-printed, oversized oblong volume. The acetate cover shrinks with time and the covers should be removed from it eventually.
Divers / Misc. — review of the "Deep South" exhibit at Parco Gallery, in English.
